Hello my students, today we are going to learn something interesting about the use of the Present Simple and the Present Continuous. Enjoy your studying!
Uso del Present Simple
a) Per azioni abituali e ripetitive, che si compiono con una certa regolarità, con l’uso degli avverbi di frequenza.
Example: What time do you get up? I usually get up at seven o’clock.
b) per esprimere verità permanenti e inalterabili.
Example: In a fluid, when speed increases, pressure decreases.
c) quando si raccontano o si riferiscono storie o fatti (presente narrativo o storico).
Examples: After that, I get out of my car, I lock it and go into the shop. But when I get out…
Shakespeare sets about one-third of his plays in Italy.
d) Per segnalare orari di mezzi di trasporto e di spettacoli (timetables).
Examples: The train leaves from platform 12 at 10:45 am.
The film finishes at 11:00 pm.
Uso del Present Continuous
a) Per azioni che si stanno svolgendo nel momento in cui si parla ( now, at the moment).
Examples: What are you doing? I’m reading a book.
Is he going home? No, he isn’t. He’s going to Linda’s.
b) indica azioni transitorie (temporary actions), che si svolgono in un periodo limitato di tempo (es. this week, this month, this semester).
Example: I usually use my motorcycle, but this week I’m going to school by bus.
I’m attending an English course this year.
c) In presenza di always, per indicare un’azione abituale che ha in genere una connotazione negativa.
Example: He’s a bore. He‘s always talking about himself.
