Hallo, my students today I’m going to talk about the use of the First Conditional in English.
Il periodo Ipotetico o If Sentences si distingue in:
- Periodo ipotetico di I Tipo o della Possibilità
- Periodo Ipotetico di II Tipo o della Probabilità o Irrealtà
- periodo Ipotetico di III Tipo o dell’Impossibilità
Il Periodo Ipotetico di I tipo
Frase secondaria Frase Principale
(The Condition) (The Result)
Struttura: If + sogg. + Present Simple, sogg + futuro con will, can, might + forma base del verbo
Es: If you leave before ten, you’ll catch the train.
Forma Negativa:
If you don’t hurry, you might miss it.
I can get some more milk if there isn’t enough.
La Forma interrogativa:
What will we do if it rains tomorrow?
If it rains tomorrow, we’ll stay at home.
La frase secondaria può precedere o seguire la frase principale.
That bowl will break (,) if you drop it. ( si rimuove la virgola)
I’ll buy a new house if I win the lottery. (si può usare la forma contratta di will: ‘ll).
Si usa il I tipo quando ci si riferisce a situazioni future che chi parla ritiene probabili. Esprime possibilità che la condizione ipotizzata possa realizzarsi o no. Ricordarsi che in italiano dopo il “se” possiamo usare un futuro, in inglese si usa solo il present simple dopo if, mai usare will, might o can, es:
If you always drive so fast, you’ll often have accidents.
If it doesn’t rain, we’ll play tennis.
